Discussing changes in the rules of classic HookahBattle expo events about mixes
As you may know we do many online and offline events in a different countries every year:
For offline (expo events) we have a stable rules:
1. Team of 1-3 persons should prepare a shisha for the Jury using own equipemnt and ingridients, each team have 5 minutes on stage for the presentation, each team have a dedicated space near the stage for own preparations
2. Sometimes we ask to make a presentation in a certain given style (Asian style, Wild West, Gypsy, Christmas e.t.c.)
3. There are no requirements for a shisha model (you can do something crazy or something classic and simple with almost same chances to win)
4. There are no requirements for a tobacco mix or brand
In this topic I want to discuss my idea to change the point about freedom of MIX. In each offline (expo) event we will ask to make a mix in a cpecific flavor direction.
For example:
Present your best Lemon-mint mix (where Lemon-mint can be from any tobacco brand, but not less than 50% in your bowl)
or
Present your best Blackberry mix (same concept — any blackberry flavor from any company, but not less than 50% in your bowl
e.t.c. — new event, new rule for the mix.
This improvement will help us to make our youtube shows more interesting for simple home smokers, who are looking for the different shisha ratings. Like Top-10 Lemon-mint mixes or Top-10 Blackberry flavor mixes presented by Shisha Sportsman.
What are the pros, cons and pitfalls you see in this idea? Type in comments here.

I think what we have right now is already amazing, however, it will be more fair to set up a hookah design award on the hookah design.
From my experience of two times being in the hookah battle, I think the hookah design can be a separate award in the battle in order to increase the creativity of the participants while they are preparig and also can innovate the manufacturor about the possibility of hookah. Meanwhile the judges can rate the hookah itself from the flow of hookah, smoothness, smoke density, intensity, also the mixing of tobacco in order to present the better skills hookah athlete. And on the other side, they can rate the knowledge of the athletes as well during the presentation of hookah. However, it would be suggested to rate the hookah design solely.
For flavour wise, I think limiting the flavour would not be a good suggestion but maybe setting up a theme for the battle each time. As a result, the hookah athele can create some different mixes accroding to the theme whole they can create their own story with the theme during the presentation. Somehow like the mix and story that darkside sponsored. I think this would be great for homesmokers to have some idea on their mixes at home which it can also restvout the mixology skills of the athele
However, thank you so much for everything that’s done for the industry globally! Herrooooo x
Big love
I think it’s a good idea to add 1 specific flavour as there can be many many mixes with all the flavours on the market right now, but having to mix it with 50% may be too hard, most of my mixes would have 20 to 30% of most flavours and if you ask me to put 50% of one specific you may not taste the other flavours …
I also get the point that it could be too hard to taste it if there is only 5-10% so i think it shouldn’t be more than 30% or just leave it to the jury to say if they taste it or not, it’s the hookah master’s job to mix it and make you taste it all … could be hard for some flavours (mostly fruity ones) and easy for others (any minty flavour would be easy to taste);
Another thing could be to just add extra points to the participants respecting it, not being all the competition around that specific restriction, it could help having few more points if the jury consider tasting the flavour or not;
Last point, all the flavours doesn’t react the same depending on the HMD, being a live competition would be good, being offline may be hard as the hookah master won’t prepare it the way it should to taste it at his best;
Greetings to all the team for all the work ! Keep it up guys !
I would not do a prior determination of the taste for all participants. Each team should continue to decide for themselves what taste it should be. Some teams select their tastes according to certain criteria. The taste may have something to do with the hookah or the country of origin of the team or the motto. If you set the taste beforehand, this would limit a lot. What I could well imagine would be that the participants are given how much different tobacco varieties can be used to the maximum. For example, only three different types of tobacco may be used for the mix. For an online event you can make a determination of the taste for all participants and then call the event so. For example, Mix and Storys Grape with Mint Special or something like that.
It is all about to show what is possible and what is not.
I think limiting down the possible possibilities of tobacco variations isn’t the best idea. By limiting down, you limit down the creativity of the participants and stop them from using their full potential as a team in a battle.
I think already what you guys do is incredible 😁 Honestly I feel if you limit it down to certain flavour profiles, for example the lemon mix and the new rules , some people may not smoke lemon mixes. Maybe they like other flavours.
Instead maybe you limit it down to certain heads only or certain shishas with different mixes in the water. For example, best mix with a QUASAR head, in a nanasmoke shisha with lemongrass in the base.
These may inspire people to try different mixes with limited options.
Keep it up guys. 🙏🏻✨
