DISPUTE: WOOKAH VS UTOPIA
Not long ago on the shisha expo of JohnCalliano Awards Moscow we have found a new shisha model brand: Utopia

We had a debate within our administration team about whether new Utopia looked like a copy of Wookah or not.

Well, well, well… the base of UTOPIA definitely looks different — and I’d even say better.
However, the stem looks very similar to Wookah’s design. So I’m not sure whether it’s inspired by Wookah or just a coincidence. Probably not a copy though.
– mom, i want Wookah
– we have Wookah at home
Wookah at home:
Greetings everyone — I’m not sure why this is even up for debate. Utopia is clearly a Wookah lookalike. They’ve copied even minor technical details, and the small visual differences in the base don’t really change that. If anything, they’ve taken the original design idea and made it less clean, less refined.
In my opinion, these are completely different hookahs, which are similar only in that both hookahs contain wood. But since wood is a material, it is incorrect to say that they are similar only because of this. It’s like saying that a glass flask belongs only to the person who first decided to use it.
If you look at the design separately, again, they have different shapes, both the flask and the shaft cover.
No, it is not a copy and does not even resemble Wookah.
It looks very similar, but both options look decent👌
I would say the only similarity is shape of the ‘heart’ and the hose adapter. But after that it’s different.
The vases are a lot more attractive in my opinion. Wookah has its own classic aesthetic but it’s not been changed since its inception. Only recently they added a diffuser and updated their vases from threading to click.
I can’t comment on how they smoke as I was not able to try the Utopia at JCFEST but I’m sure it will smoke well as other Russian hookahs do.
I don’t know why there is even a dispute if a company uses a similar concept to make a new better and maybe even improve on it.
Remember Wookah was not the first Hookah, not the first threaded hookah. So what is the dispute here even??
If you ask me I think Utopia looks more modern compared to the traditional Wookah. Wookah has its own signature style, Utopia has a modern twist which I think looks appealing especially if you want to stick out. I think Utopia could change their design a little more to make it more unique.
Простите, но я не знаю,что за аппарат такой utopia, поэтому просто подумала что Вука расширила линейку 🤣
WOOKAH is WOOKAH. No one should make similar hookahs to WOOKAH, simply because you can’t produce the same thing with the same stability for so many years. On the other hand, under the conditions of sanctions, there are no other options, we are replacing imports.
So, hello everyone.
This is the legend of HookaBattle. This is Artyom.
So, regarding the similarities… originally, a Vuka is a pole. A pole is a thing that sits on stairs under the railing. So, basically, a lot of hookahs actually look like these pole—they’re just different shapes. So, this hookah also has a visual similarity to the Vuka. But originally, they’re all just pole. Because a lot of hookahs look alike. So, screw the similarities.—— The hyena and the dog are visually similar.
But at the same time, the hyena and the dog are different species. That is, radically different.
You need to look at the difference between Utopia and Vuka in the work, and nothing else, because perhaps Utopia doesn’t rot as much as Vuka, or doesn’t rot at all. Perhaps you sense a different smoke there… the mine is made differently there… the smoke is different… you need to look at all of this in the work.
Wookah‘s established reputation as a long-standing, significant brand in the hookah industry, where quality truly speaks for itself—if a product like Wookah can endure challenges and maintain its performance over time, it’s only little cause for concern.
At the same time, it should embrace healthy competition and progress: if a brand like Utopia is crafting something that outperforms existing options (including in areas like design quality, materials, or overall experience), that’s ultimately positive for the entire industry. Evolution through superior alternatives drives everyone forward, following the principle that the survivor is the choice of customers.
True quality isn’t about protecting the status quo; it’s about what actually elevates the experience today.
This is a really interesting debate. For me, Wookah represents something deeper than just a design. They’ve built a legacy rooted in craftsmanship, consistency, and identity over the years. When I see a Wookah, I see years of refinement, a signature soul that’s been trusted by enthusiasts worldwide. That kind of history can’t be replicated overnight. That said, Utopia does catch my eye with its modern execution. The proportions feel slightly sharper, the base designs more contemporary. And if the internals perform better, if the draw is smoother, then they’ve pushed forward.
But here’s where I land: inspiration is one thing; walking the line between homage and imitation is delicate. Wookah earned its place through years of proving itself. The question is whether Utopia is building something new up there, or just enjoying the view.
I’d love to try both side by side and let the experience be the final judge:)
It most definitely looks like a copy. I hate all brands that fail to find their own identity and just copy what’s popular. Whoever tries to deny it, is dishonest to their own selves. Not what I’m hoping to see from the Hookah Industry moving forward.
In my opinion, Utopia has some design elements that look similar to Wookah, especially the wooden style and overall shape. However, many hookah brands share similar aesthetics today, so it’s hard to say if it’s a direct copy or just inspiration.
