Date: April 12, 2026 (Sunday)
Time: 1:00 PM – 7:00 PM
Venue: N24 ARK·TPE, Taipei
Participants: first 20 qualified applicants who complete both registration steps
Equipment Provided: UNION hookahs, charcoal, and water (all other materials to be brought by contestants)
Our Core Philosophy: The Blind Judging Revolution
At Taiwan HookahBattle 2026, we are introducing a groundbreaking 100% Blind Judging System designed to eliminate all forms of bias, reputation influence, and visual or auditory distraction. Here, the only thing that matters is the skill in your hands and the flavor in the smoke. How It Works:Every contestant is assigned a random, anonymous code. This code is the only identifier used throughout judging — on score sheets, hookahs, and recipe cards. Judges have zero knowledge of who created which hookah. No names, no faces, no affiliations. Only the smoke speaks.
Registration & Selection:
To participate, you must complete both steps:
- Step 1: Register on the official HookahBattle website → receive your Official ID→submit an entry (if you already have an account, please log in and submit an entry)
- Step 2: Use your ID to complete the organizer’s Google Form.
Post-Selection Requirements:
Upon confirmation, each contestant must email:
- A 2–3 minute intro video (for audience display)
- A 1-minute factual narration script (flavor profile, inspiration, etc.)
- A detailed recipe form (brands, flavors, ratios)
Competition Structure:
Round 1: Signature Recipe Challenge (Preliminary)
- Format: All 20 contestants prepare their declared signature recipe.
- Blind Process: Prep takes place in a closed area — no judges or audience present.
- Each hookah is labeled only with the contestant’s code and delivered to judges by neutral staff.
Judging is based solely on the five criteria below.
Top 5 advance to the finals.
Round 2: Mystery Box Challenge (Finals)
- Format: The 5 finalists will randomly draw a designated base flavor. They must use this as the core but may accent it using only other flavors provided by the organizer.
- 20-minute creation time, followed by the same blind judging process.
- The winner is determined by the highest score.
To ensure fairness and eliminate voice recognition bias:
- AI-Voiced Chinese NarrationContestants’ pre-submitted scripts are converted into a consistent, neutral AI voice in Chinese.
- Live English TranslationA professional neutral translator provides real-time English narration for international judges.
- Screen DisplayJudges see only the contestant’s code and flavor profile chart — no names, no brands, no faces.
Judging Criteria (1-10 points each)
- Flavor Clarity & Balance
- Smoothness & Smoke Quality
- Heat Management & Burn Control
- Complexity, Depth & Aftertaste
- Overall Sensory Experience
There will be three top winners (1st, 2nd, and 3rd place): will be awarded with Hall Of Fame rating points local event rate rules (full rules info is here).

“Participants: first 20 qualified applicants who complete both registration steps”
– what if its gonna be more than 20 applicants who are willing to join? Advise: use hookahbattle online voting qualification on the official website of the event. The right of vote have only verified hookahbattle accounts
Hi Stan, thank you so much for the thoughtful feedback!
You’re absolutely right to highlight these points. Definitely something we need to think through carefully. We’ll discuss this further with the team and keep you in the loop as things evolve.
Thanks again, Stan!🙏
“Equipment Provided: UNION hookahs, charcoal, and water (all other materials to be brought by contestants)”
– Do I correctly understand that you are willing to give same shisha models to all the contestants to make the equal conditions? Will Union be the sponsor of the event? If not – other shisha models manufacturers will not be interested to join as a partner of event. Dont you think that the show will looks visually boring with 20 contestants using same equipment?
I’ve been the head judge since HookahBattle was founded, and we’ve already gone through these exact mistakes more than once over the years:
1) The criteria often overlap / duplicate each other
1. Flavor Clarity & Balance
2. Smoothness & Smoke Quality
1+2 Heat Management & Burn Control
1 Complexity, Depth & Aftertaste
1+2 Overall Sensory Experience
And this is crucial: if the bowl is overheated, the flavor, balance, etc. are basically destroyed.
2) If someone “serves” the hookah while the teams prepare in a separate room, the risk of burnt/harsh sessions increases a lot. We’ve already been through this. And if the person who serves it actively manages the heat, then he effectively becomes a participant in the competition.
Solution for problem #1: use ranked voting (each judge sorts all entries from “liked most” to “liked least”). The intermediate criteria become only supportive – just a way to remember your notes about each entry.
Also, we can do ranked voting for free with the help of our friends at Rezon.io – they’re releasing a major update on March 1, including a much more convenient mobile interface.
Solution for problem #2 the participants bring the hookah themselves, and an assistant only passes the hose through the gap between the two curtain panels separating the judges from the participants. You can even split one stage in half with a curtain—then everything is visible and under control.
Hi Oleg, thank you so much for the thoughtful comment!
Having you take the time to share such detailed and honest feedback means a lot to us. Your points on the criteria overlap, and the serving logistics are incredibly valuable.
We’ll be going through all of this carefully with the team. Really appreciate you looking out for us! Thanks again, Oleg 🙏
Hi Katty, thank you so much for the thoughtful comment!
You raised a great point about the judging criteria. We’re actually in the middle of an internal discussion right now to refine this based on feedback just like yours. So really appreciate you sharing that!
For the Mystery Box Challenge, the 5 finalists will draw a random base flavor on the spot. But here’s the key: all accent flavors will be provided by the organizer from a shared ingredient pool. That means:
* No one needs to pre-prepare or guess what’s coming
* Everyone works with the exact same selection of additional flavors
* It’s pure creativity and skill under pressure, exactly what a true battle should test.
Prizes are still under discussion! We’re working on something exciting and will make an official announcement as soon as everything’s finalized. So definitely stay tuned 👀
Thanks again for helping us make the rules better. Let us know if any other thoughts come to mind:)
Will it be entry fee for contestants and money prize fund? Or it will be free for contestants and no money prize fund?
Just coming back after the event to share my thoughts! This was one of the most fun Hookah Battles, all the teams were very passionate and put in a lot of effort into their mixes. The event itself was the perfect location at a rooftop lounge with Taipei 101 as the backdrop. Stan was very thoughtful to remind me that this is a younger community of smokers who are very passionate and have a deep love for the hobby. It was so refreshing to see this because in some communities we aren’t getting the next generation interested in hookah whereas in Taiwan it is thriving! The CloudKick team did a phenomenal job organizing this event, there will always be feedback for the next event. I hope everyone had as fun hanging out as we did and we were honored to be able to come out and judge this battle. I have now been in this industry for 11 years and am always so excited to see HookahBattle events happening worldwide. As I am nearing the end of my HB “career” as a participant I was so happy to be able to have this moment with George from Regal. Looking back on my first Battle where he gave me valuable advice it was a full circle moment to now get to co-judge with him. I look forward to see where Hookah Battle goes next!
